Advocacy and Policy
Farm Management
At the heart of our work is ensuring that Canadian grain farmers remain profitable and competitive. We advocate for fair taxation policies that support farm succession and growth, along with equitable access to the resources farmers need to thrive. We work to ensure that policies around carbon pricing and environmental stewardship are practical and beneficial for farmers, helping them succeed both economically and environmentally.
Key Issues
Carbon Pricing
Grain farmers continue to face policy uncertainty around carbon pricing. Carbon pricing, and related tools like carbon border adjustment mechanisms, have cost producers thousands of dollars without delivering practical solutions for emissions reduction.
We continue to advocate for practical, incentive-based policies that support on-farm investments in innovation and efficiency. Farmers should be rewarded, not penalized, for making improvements that lower emissions while maintaining profitability.

Capital Gains
We advocate for fair taxation policies that protect family farms from burdensome increase in capital gains taxes announced in Budget 2024, ensuring smooth transitions between generations and supporting the long-term viability of family farms.

Right to Repair
We support farmers’ right to repair their equipment and interoperability between manufacturers, giving them the freedom to maintain their machinery without relying on manufacturers. This ensures farmers can keep their operations running efficiently and cost-effectively.
After sustained advocacy, Bills C-244 and C-294 successfully passed to amend the Copyright Act, giving farmers the right to continue repairing their own equipment. Farmers now have stronger legal backing to diagnose, maintain, and repair the tools they rely on. To ensure the right to repair is equally accessible to grain farmers across Canada, GGC is now advocating for a federal framework for harmonization across provinces.
