Advocacy and Policy
Trade & Marketing
We are committed to ensuring Canadian farmers have access to the global markets they need to thrive. By advocating for strong trade agreements and their effective implementation, we help secure a competitive and rules-based trading environment. We work to ensure that Canadian grain producers can access the best market opportunities and receive competitive prices for their high-quality products.
Key Issues
Canada Grain Act
The Canada Grain Act is vital for maintaining the quality and reputation of Canadian grain globally. We advocate for a modernized Act that protects farmers, ensures fair and agile regulations, and strengthens Canada’s position in international markets. By upholding high standards, the Act helps us keep Canadian grain competitive and trusted, while safeguarding farmers’ interests in grading, weighing, and marketing.
In 2023, Canada exported more than 55 million metric tonnes of grain and grain products totaling $40 billion dollars.

Amendments to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act
We are opposed to amendments to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act that would handcuff Canada’s trade negotiators at a time when global trade tensions are rising and disputes with key partners remain unresolved.
Protecting one sector over another and restricting Canada’s ability to negotiate comprehensive trade agreements undermines the entire agri-food sector, especially export-oriented producers. As trade uncertainty increases with our largest markets, Canada must preserve its ability to secure competitive access abroad.

Canada’s Trade Relations
Trade uncertainty with the United States, our largest trading partner, and China, our second largest, continues to challenge the stability of grain farm revenues. Each year, Canada exports over $17 billion in grain and grain products to the U.S. and over $8 billion to China.
While diversification remains a key goal, the reality is that no other markets offer the same scale. Due to this reality, we continue to advocate for stable, rules-based trade relationships that safeguard market access, enhance competitiveness, and strengthen Canada’s role in the global trading system.
