Policy

Transportation

Canada’s agriculture relies on efficient, predictable transportation services. The reliability of the Canadian grain handling system is directly related to farmers’ competitiveness in domestic and global markets. The rail system should work for the shipper and be balanced and fair for all parties, be it grain farmers, handlers or shipping companies.

94 per cent of Canadian grain
is shipped by rail.

Our global food security depends on the entire agriculture supply chain to deliver Canadian products to consumers at home and around the world. Responsive rail service will help realize the benefits of trade agreements and expand our access to international markets.

Our Commitment

Canada has an international reputation as a dependable trading partner. Canada’s grains sector is committed to working with the federal government to uphold this reputation and strengthen our domestic economy and place in the global market.

In May 2018, Bill C-49, the Transportation Modernization Act, became law:

GGC is a partner in the Canada’s Ready Campaign
Hear grain farmers Dave Bishop, Gary Stanford, Dean Toews, talk grain transportation and carbon price and why it is important for farmers to come to Ottawa and advocate.

How do we increase reliability in our transportation and supply chains?

Transportation

GGC advocates for policy solutions that bolster transparency, reliability, and efficiency within our rail systems. For the Canadian grain sector, cost-effective, consistent, and reliable transportation for supply chains are fundamental to ensure that a steady supply of grain is available to customers worldwide.
